Flu Season is here

Flu season is well under way. This time of the year, not only is the flu really going around, but other colds and viruses as well. I am going to list some tips to keep your house disinfected and when you have someone in your home with one of these viruses, how to disinfect your home. These are tips are things that I do and a lot of these tips I do on a daily or weekly basis in my home.

flu season

Phones

When someone has a cold or the flu, the cell phone, or landline phone, is one of the most germ collectors there is in your home. According to http://www.webmd.com, 80% of phones with children or adults with the flu, have the flu virus on them. These virus can survive for a couple of hours, to a couple of days. I disinfect my daily.

Remote Controls

Remote controls are touched a lot in the home. Most people never really disinfect there remotes around there home. If a child or adult sneezes, then touches the remote, the germs and viruses will get on the remote transferring to other people. I disinfect the remotes daily.

Bathrooms

Now the bathrooms is definitely a place for germs and viruses to go, especially when someone is sick. Bathroom sink and faucets are major germs and viruses collectors. Faucets are easily contaminated due to constant contact with hands. Never clean toilets, faucets and sinks with the same tower. Always use a clean towel for separate surfaces. This is why I disinfect the faucets, sinks and toilets daily.

Towels

Speaking of towels. Never share a hand or wash towel with a sick person. When someone in your home is sick, when washing there hands use paper towels to dispose of them so they do not infect anyone else. When showering, do not reuse the same towel. When linens are damp, after 24 hours, bacteria starts forming . Change out your hand towels daily, whether someone is sick or not. Wash the all towels in hot water with my favorite laundry detergent, Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. https://www.lysol.com. Lysol Laundry Sanitizer kills 99% of bacteria on clothes and towels. The great thing about Lysol Laundry Sanitizer is that it works in cold water and is cost efficient for everyday laundry needs.

Tables

Any table tops or surface in your home are a major areas for germs and viruses. These areas are touched several times through out the day. This is why during cold and flu season it is important to wipe there surfaces daily.

Computers

Computer keyboards and mouses, are like remote controls, they are in consistently exposed to germy hands. I wipe down my keyboard and mouse after every use.

Stuffed Animals

Stuffed animals are notorious germs collectors. If you can, wash stuffed animals in hot water with Lysol Laundry Sanitizer, especially if some is sick. If you can not wash the stuffed animals because the label says do not wash, the wipe down the stuffed animals with disinfectant spray.

Sheets and Blankets

Sheets and blankets are like hand towels and wash towels. When someone is sick they need to be washed in hot water with Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. I wash bed sheets and blankets weekly, if no one is sick I use cold water. If someone in the house is sick I use hot water.

Sponges

Never use sponges to disinfect your home when some is sick. The sponge will soak in germs and spread them around your home. If you have a dishwasher, that is the best way to disinfect your dishes and cups. But, if you wash dishes and cups by hand, use a microfiber towel with really hot water for dishes and cups. You can wash the microfiber towel with you other towels in hot water with Lysol Laundry Sanitizer. Sponges, if you use them, when no one is sick, should be thrown out weekly. People were told before if you microwave your sponge it will kill the germs. Now, new studies have shown, that if you microwave your sponge it will actually promote bacteria and germ growth. Just throw out the sponge weekly or all together.
