20 Rising Star Athletes for Team USA
It is 2020 and the Summer Olympics in Tokyo are approaching fast. July 24 2020 kicks off all the excitement. Here is a list of 20 athletes who will make there presence felt for Team USA.
Adonis Diaz – Judo
Adonis Diaz won bronze medal at the Pan American games in Lima. He qualified for with that bronze medal to be a addition to Team USA.
Justin Dowell – Cycling
Justin Dowell won bronze at the Pan American Games in Lima and is ranked number 2 in the world for BMX freestyle. BMX will make its debut in Tokyo 2020.
Rashida Ellis – Boxing
Rashida Ellis won bronze medal at the Pan American Games. Ellis is in the women’s lightweight division. American Olympic Qualification Event starts March 26 2020 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ellis will compete for her Olympic spot during the event.
Laura Graves – Equestrian
Laura Graves made her Olympic debut in Rio 2016 and won a bronze medal in team dressing competition. Graves is seeking her second Team USA spot.
Adrian Hegyvary – Cycling
Adrian Hegyvary finished in fourth place in Cambridge this season moving him up to sixth place in the world cup standings.
Cory Juneau – Skateboarding
Cory Juneau is one of two Americans in the top three of the Olympic rankings. Men’s Park skateboarding makes its Olympic debut in 2020 and Juneau is the favorite to get a spot on Team USA.
Casey Kaufhold – Archery
Casey Kaufhold is 15 years old and won three medals at the Pan American Games. Kaufhold is on a strong archery U.S. team, which includes five-time Olympian Khatuna Lorig and three-time Olympic medalist Brady Ellison.
Fred Kerley – Track and Field
Fred Kerley time of 43.64 seconds in the national championships in Des Moines, Iowa made him the seventh fastest man in world history. Kerley made it to international stage with a third-place finish in the men’s 400-meter at the 2019 IAAF World Championships. Kerley won a bronze medal at worlds posting a time of 44.17 seconds to win his first world individual medal.
Kristi Kirshe – Rugby
Kristi Kirshe played just one season with the USA Women’s Eagles Sevens. They finished second-place finish in the 2018-19 World Rugby Sevens Series. Kirshe was a major part in the U.S. gaining a spot at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Nelly Korda – Golf
Nelly Korda , 21-year-old, enters 2020 at No. 3 in the Olympic rankings. Korda was a rookie on the LPGA Tour just two years ago in 2017. Korda will be one of four Americans who will qualify for the Olympics.
Evy Leibfarth – Canoe/Kayak
Evy Leibfarth won a gold medal in Canoe Slalom K-1 at the Pan American Games. Leibfarth competes in C-1 and K-1 events. Leibfarth is 15 years old, she is the first American woman to reach the podium in a world cup canoe slalom event. She finished third in the C-1 in Slovenia.
Jay Litherland – Swimming
Jay Litherland was an Olympian in Rio. Litherland finished second to win his first world medal in the men’s 400-meter individual medley at the 2019 FINA World Championships.
Harrison Maurus – Weightlifting
Harrison Maurus made history this past summer, he won the 100th medal in USA Weightlifting history. Maurus is a three time member of the U.S. world team. Maurus won bronze at the Pan American Games.
Morgan Pearson – Triathlon
Morgan Pearson is seeking to gain his first spot on Team USA. Pearson is 20th in the Olympic and world rankings. Person finished third to help the U.S. men podium sweep in the season ending world cup race in November in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Tom Scott – Karavte
Tom Scott is the first American to be ranked No. 1 in the world by the World Karate Federation in 2015. Karate makes its debut in Tokyo 2020. Scott won three medals in the Pan American Games and one of those medals was gold. Scott is always ranked fifth the Olympics standings.
Eliza Stone – Fencing
Eliza Stone won a gold medal in her Pan American Games debut this past summer. Stone is hoping to make her first U.S. Olympic Team in 2020.
Jordan Thompson – Volleyball
Jordan Thompson made the starting lineup for Team USA game clinching win in the Olympic qualification tournament. Thompson played at the University of Cincinnati and had 50 kills. No one has had that type of performance in 20 years at Div 1 level.
Beiwen Zhang – Badminton
Beiwen Zhang is ranked 16th in the world and No. 11 on the world tour. Zhang at the BWF World Tour events, won a pair of bronze medals.
Anastasija Zolotic – Taekwondo
Anastasija Zolotic won a gold medal at the Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final. Zolotic, a rising star for the U.S., defeated the two time Olympic champion Jade Jones of Great Britain in the Grand Prix Final.
The list I wanted to share with all my readers about these rising stars. These names will be heard a lot during the 2020 Olympics. Team USA has a lot of rising stars and hopefully these athletes will bring more medals to the U.S. for years to come.
