Screen Time and Kid’s

Here in today’s day and age, electronics are really big with kids and adults. Electronics are everywhere and they are not going to be going anywhere anytime soon. You see less kids out riding their bikes or playing ball out in the streets like when I was growing up. Between Ipads, tablets, Xbox and Playstation, is the new drug of the electronic world.

How do these devices affect our kids health? Kids that seem agitated and high strung are being put on medications for ADHD, Bipolar Disorders and Depression. A lot of these struggling kids are being misdiagnosed and medical professional are overlooking, or not being told the amount of time these kids are spending on electronic devices. There is a great article I was reading from Psychology Today that explains how these devices can affect kids. The article list six reasons that can change kids moods due to electronics. Here is the link, https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/mental-wealth/201508/screentime-is-making-kids-moody-crazy-and-lazy.

Here are the six reasons that where listed.

1. Screen time disrupts sleep and desynchronizes the body clock.

2. Screen time desensitizes the brain’s reward system

3. Screen time produces “light-at-night.”

4. Screen time induces stress reactions.

5. Screen time overloads the sensory systemfractures attention, and depletes mental reserves.

6. Screen-time reduces physical activity levels and exposure to “green time.

I wanted to bring this information to all my readers. I do believe that kids do not spend enough time playing outside. Kids need to be active and play with friends outside, whether it is riding bikes with their friends or playing ball in the park. Inactivity and sitting in front of these devices, in my opinion, for hours on end is not healthy for growing kids. Now that being said, yes it is hard to keep kids away from electronic devices where they are part of our world. But, there is nothing wrong with limiting kids on the usage of these devices.
