Super Bowl LVI 2020 Preview
The Super Bowl is this Sunday February 2 2020 and kickoff is 6:30pm. Super Bowl LIV is will be played in Miami, FL at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. There is always a lot of buzz and talk during Super Bowl week. Super Bowl is always a different game than regular and postseasons games during the NFL season. There is the Super Bowl ads that everyone loves to watch and the halftime show always gets attention as well. Social Media will be going crazy with people commenting on the ads and halftime show throughout the Super Bowl. With all that being said, there is always the game that is played and there will players during the game that will become household names around the U.S. and even the world. The Super Bowl will be broadcasted in 180 countries and 25 different languages.
Facts about both teams
The Kansas City Chiefs are in their first Super Bowl in 50 years. The Chiefs have one Super Bowl win and that was Super Bowl IV. The San Francisco 49ers have a very rich history when it comes to the Super Bowl. The 49ers have five Super Bowl wins and have made it to the big game seven times. If the 49ers win this Super Bowl they will tie the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers with six Super Bowl titles. The 49ers last appearance in the Super Bowl was in 2013. The 49ers lost that Super Bowl to the Baltimore Ravens 34-31.
I would say the biggest superstar between both teams right now is QB Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes has a very extensive resume already. Mahomes has only been starting in the league for two years. He had one start in 2017 the year he was drafted by Kansas City. Mahomes really broke out during the 2018 season. He led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship in 2018-2019 season and lost to the New England Patriots. Mahomes was the MVP for the 2018-2019 season. If the Chiefs and Mahomes win Super Bowl LVI, he will be only the third QB to win a Super Bowl before his 25th birthday. Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady are the only two QB’s to win a Super Bowl before their 25th birthday. Another interesting fact about Mahomes and the Chiefs, if the Chiefs win, Mahomes will become the youngest player to win a Super Bowl and MVP. Emmitt Smith is currently the youngest player to achieve both a Super Bowl and MVP in 1993. Smith was 24 years, 233 days old. Mahomes would be 24 years and 138 days on Super Bowl Sunday.
The 49ers do have a very good defense. Nick Bosa is in his rookie year and has made a huge impact with the 49ers. The 49ers defense vs the Chiefs offense will be a very interesting match up. The 49ers defense is a the strong point of their team. 49ers QB, Jimmy Garoppolo has a tremendous season. Garoppolo has two Super Bowl rings, he won both rings with the New England Patriots when he was backup to Tom Brady. Even though Garoppolo did not start or play in either of those Super Bowls, this does give him experience on what to expect on Super Bowl Sunday. The 49ers are the third team in NFL history to advance to a Super Bowl after winning only four games the previous year. Only other two teams to do this was the 1999 St Louis Rams and the 1988 Cincinnati Bengals.
My take on this Super Bowl is that the 49ers defense will have to somehow contain the Mahomes. Mahomes can make plays from in the pocket or outside as his running abilities are amazing. Saying the 49ers need to contain Mahomes is easier said than done. But with the 49ers abilities on defense and the front four, this could be the only defense that I can see that have the talent to at least slow Mahomes down. Garoppolo and the offense need to keep Mahomes off the field. My opinion, Garoppolo does not need to throw for 400 yards and 6 touchdowns to help the 49ers win the game. Garoppolo needs to manage the game and move the chains to keep the clocking running. The more time the Garoppolo and the 49ers have the ball, the less time Mahomes has to make big plays he is known for.
The Chiefs on offense is very entertaining and they score in a blink of an eye. The Chiefs running game is also excellent. The 49ers defense though is very hard to run against. This will be interesting to see if the Chiefs can get their running game established. I do believe that the Chiefs wide receivers are going to have to be on their game in order to win this game. Richard Sherman for the 49ers is a top notch corner and he will play a huge role, that is why I believe the wide receivers for the Chiefs are going to have to be on point and run really good routes. Travis Kelce is a huge threat and has been on season. But, if the 49ers start to take him out of the equation, Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill are going to have made some big plays, which both receivers are capable of.
Both head coaches have Super Bowl Experience. Both head coaches do have something in common as well. Andy Reid, Chiefs head coach, was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. The Eagles lost to the New England Patriots. Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the 49ers, was the offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. Andy Reid has the most wins as head coach to not win a Super Bowl yet as well. So, for Reid, this Super Bowl could really make his cement his legacy. Kyle Shanahan is the son of two time Super Bowl head coach Mike Shanahan. This will be the first time in NFL history that a father and son will be head coaches in a Super Bowl. 49ers offensive assistant Katie Sowers will also make NFL history during Super Bowl LVI. Sowers will be the first female to coach in a Super Bowl. Sowers has been with the 49ers organization for four seasons as an offensive assistant coach. Here is a really good article on nfl.com about Katie Sowers.
Hope everyone enjoys Super Bowl LVI!
